Rounds 19-21 NGRRC Cadwell Park
This was the final round of the NGRRC championships. The team had missed the penultimate round at Anglesey due to being at the Manx Grand Prix. As such Steve had slipped Into 4th in the Supertwin championship and Elaine had lost her advantage in the JSS championship and Kylan had closed the gap to 3rd to just 3 points. This was also one of the hottest weekends of the year with temperatures reaching 28 degrees which things rather sticky.
Friday test day went well and Elaine was given additional help and support by the young and talented Finn Smart Weeden who is currently lying in 2nd in the British JSS championship. Finn also got to ride the Aprilia and absolutely loved it! Elaine made huge progress all weekend and managed to improve her times around the Lincolnshire circuit by 18 seconds since her last race there in 2021. Despite her best efforts she narrowly missed out on 3rd overall in the JSS championship, finishing 4th out of 22 riders who had raced this season on Olive her Kawasaki Ninja 400.
Steve was unable to bridge the gap in the Supertwin championship despite two podium finishes and also finished 4th overall in the championship behind friend and fellow racer Dave Carson of Two Dave’s Racing. Steve also competed in the Racing in Pink beauty pageant to raise money for cancer research and won the Glitterist Balls Award and most importantly helped raise over £5000 that weekend.

Rounds 13-14 NGRRC Castle Combe
For the their next race meeting of the 2023 season, the team headed to Castle Combe in Wiltshire with NGRRC (July 28th – 30th)
For Steve this was a weekend to test the bikes for the final time before the Manx Grand Prix and make sure the bigger fuel tanks worked. Friday test day was a huge success and both new IOM tanks did the job! With both Hondas, the CBR400rr and K4 Drixten parked up and ready for the MGP.
Steve took to the spanners and was pit monkey for Elaine who took another podium and maintained 3rd in the JSS championship.

Rounds 10-12 NGRRC Pembrey
For the their next race meeting of the 2023 season, the team headed to Pembrey in Wales with NGRRC (June 23rd-25th)
After weeks of glorious sunshine, the weather took a sudden change for the worse, and Friday test day started with a heavy downpour that continued most of the mornin. However, the team got some dry practice in the afternoon and most importantly Steve got to try out the new classic bike, owned by Ray Stephens, ready for the Manx Grand Prix.
Saturday saw Steve’s first podium of the day in the supertwins and Elaine got her highest place finish all year, 4th in the JSS class. Sunday was incredible as the Moody’s took two podium’s each, Elaine’s first ever on the little Ninja 400.

ACU British Vet Motocross Championship 2023
Steve, Olds Moods, took to the dirt again on his Husqvarna 350, competing in the first ever ACU Vet Motocross Championship, in the over 50’s novice support class, held at Toddington MX in Bedfordshire.
Steve had never been to or raced at Toddington before, so first practice was his first time round the hillside track. Steve qualified 11th out of 40 riders in his class. Day one, Steve managed a 6th and two 5ths to finish the day 5th overall in class. After a tasty BBQ supper with paddock neighbours Colin and Robin, and a good nights sleep, Steve improved his performance on day two taking a 2nd, 3rd and 4th in class, to finish 3rd overall in the over 50s novice class.

Race report Stretton Sprint Series
2023 Minibike Championship – Round 1
The Moody’s are always happy to race anything with two wheels and this time it was the turn of their matching Symoto pit bikes, Fred and Wilma, competing in the senior minibike class in the 2023 minibike championships held at the Leicestershire karting circuit, Stretton.
Competing alongside the Dilligaf duo was the young Lucas King who was racing in the junior minibike class. This was his first ever race and only the third time on his bike and only just had his 11th birthday.
Everyone rocked up on Saturday afternoon with Kevin the Doodle and Roxy Rocket, for evening practice and had a shared BBQ feast. Saturday was practice, qualifying and three races each.
Despite low numbers, the welcome and racing was fantastic and camaraderie in the paddock truly amazing!! Mrs Moods was 5th in her first race beating husband Steve who failed to finish, and did a new PB in her second race. As Steve failed to finish race one, he had to start from the back of the grid for race two, but took the lead by the end of lap two to take the checkered flag with a new PB lap time of 39.4s. Race three was red flagged due to an oil leak which caused Elaine to have a slight spill and low side into the barriers.
However the young Lucas King at just 11 years old was the star of the show. Elaine and Steve met Lucas and his family a few weeks earlier at Stretton Karting when he was trying out his new Symoto pit bike for the first time. Lucas clearly showed he had natural talent and was eager to listen and learn from wise old Mr Moody. This weekend the young Jedi showed master Yoda how much he had learnt by winning his first race and did a 39.9s lap! Lucas also took first overall in the first round of the tournament.
Many thanks to the Alan Lord, Nic Cunningham and the marshals for a fantastic well organised and fun event for riders of all ages!

Rounds 7-9 NGRRC Donington Park
For the their third race meeting of the 2023 season, the team headed to Donington Park in Derby with NGRRC (May 12th to 14th).
Steve was all set to race in three classes, Pre-injection 1300 on the Honda VFR750 built by Ivan Hore, Open 500 with wife Elaine on the Ducati 350 owned by Ray Stephens as well as continuing his championship battle in the Supertwins on the 3D Moto race prepped Aprilia RS660. Elaine would race her little Kawasaki Ninja 400 in the JSS and Open 500 championships.
Unfortunately Steve was plagued with mechanical issues all weekend which meant he had to withdraw from the Pre-injection and Open 500 classes. However in the Supertwin class, Steve secured a third, fourth and fifth with a new PB of 1:15.6, after some close racing with on track rivals and off track friends Dave Carson, Alex Sinclair and Jamie Ingham and a difficult final race. Elaine had her gutsiest performance all year in the JSS class alongside the Ducati Desmo Due and despite totally overcooking it into the final chicane, she rode the wheels off her little Ninja and had a few on track battles, and was very proud of her personal achievements this weekend.
Many thanks to all the organisers and marshals for a great weekend. Thanks to our fellow competitors we shared so many laughs with off track and great racing on track. Wishing Jamie a speedy recovery.

Dilligaf Racing NCRRC rounds 4-6 Castle Combe April 2023
For the their second race meeting of the 2023 season, the team headed to Castle Combe in Wiltshire with NGRRC (April 21st-23rd)
Once again this was the first time Steve had raced there since 1996 when the track had no chicanes, and it was Elaine’s first ever race meeting at Castle Combe. Steve was entered into 3 classes on three different bikes, a 1992 Honda VFR750 built by Ivan Hore in the Pre-injection 1300 class, a 1966 350 single cylinder Ducati owned by Ray Stephens in the Open 500 championship and his 3D Moto race prepped Aprilia RS660 in the Supertwins. Elaine was entered in the JSS class and the Open 500 class alongside husband Steve, on her Kawasaki Ninja 400. This meant the couple would compete in 15 races in total over the weekend.
Both the Ducati and VFR suffered mechanical issues on the Saturday and were unable to race that day. As such Steve pulled out his old Honda CBR400RR NC29 to race. With no qualifying time set, Steve had to start from the back of the grid in the Open 500 race in 43rd position but finished 10th overall, 5th in class. Wife Elaine started in front of him on the grid in 42nd and crossed the line in 30th position, 10th in class, after a mid-race change in weather conditions that worked in her favour and a great on track battle with Kate O’Sulivan on her pink mini-twin. Steve stormed home to take the win in the first of the formula 400 races of the weekend on his beloved Erin and finished 5th in the supertwins after a fantastic race with ‘Wavey Davey’ Hewson behind Jamie Coward, Will Holland, David Carson and Brody Crockford. Elaine finished 7th in the first JSS race of the weekend.
On the Sunday, the Ducati still would not play ball but the VFR was fixed and ready to race. Steve won the first pre-injection race of the day and took 2nd in the second race making Ivan a very happy man. Steve also took the win in the first Open 500 race on his 1994 NC29 after on close fought race with the young Chace Collymore on his Yamaha R3. In the first Supertwin race of the day, Steve battled on track with the two Dave’s, Carson and Hewson, to cross the line in 4th, behind Coward, Holland and Crockford and 5th in race 3. Elaine finished comfortably in 7th in both JSS outbreaking a couple of Ducati’s into the first corner and keeping with them throughout the race. A hailstorm curtailed the final open 500 race of the day.
Following the successes of the weekend, Steve now sits in 2nd in the Supertwin championship behind Jamie Coward and Elaine couldn’t be more pleased with her 5th in the JSS class due to her consistent results.
Massive thanks to everyone who came along to support us and said hello including young Dylan Thorne who has been following the team on YouTube.

Round 1-3 NGRRC Brands Hatch
For the their first race meeting of the 2023 season, the team headed to Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent with NGRRC in March.
This was the first time Steve had raced there since 1996 and was Elaine’s first ever race meeting at the Kent circuit, having only ever done one track day at Brands previously 12 years ago when she first passed her test.
Steve qualified 3rd on the grid and 3rd in class behind Paul Williams and Brady Crockford in the supertwins on his 3D Moto race prepped Aprilia RS660. In race one in the dry, Steve crossed the line in 4th to take 3rd class. Sunday conditions were very wet and Steve took 4th in class in race 2 and 6th in race 3, securing 4th overall in the championship.
Elaine qualified 32nd on the grid, 8th in class, on her Kawasaki Ninja 400 in the Junior Supersport championship. Despite being nearly wiped out at Druids when another rider crashed, she finished 30th overall and 8th in class. Sunday in wet conditions Elaine finished 24th overall, 5th in class, in race 2 and 7th in class in race 3 to secure 7th in JSS championship.
